Brevard, nominated in 2010 as one of America’s Coolest Small Towns by Budget Travel magazine, has something for everyone. Summer in Brevard can be as busy as you want it to 
be. Home to the white squirrel, Brevard hosts the nation’s only annual White Squirrel Festival, held over Memorial Day weekend. Come to enjoy the festivities: a parade, a 5K/10K race, guided tours of Brevard, and your choice of several concerts. Don’t forget to enter the White Squirrel Photo Contest.
Also, the Brevard Music Center hosts an annual seven week music festival in summer. More than eighty concerts are presented featuring the Brevard Music Center’s three orchestras. Look for stellar performance by talented artists such as mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade or the Harlem Quartet, as well as a variety of programs featuring Keith Lockhart conducting.
Family fun at Sliding Rock
Sliding Rock is a blast for kids and adults alike. It is a sixty foot natural rock slide ending in a seven-foot deep pool. Although the water is glacial (it is the mountains after all) the ride is worth it. You can bring the family for a day of fun and keep cool before or after exploring the rest of Brevard.
In December, you can take the annual Twilight Tour in Brevard and visit the shops and galleries while taking the chill off at one of the many campfires that line the streets. Warm up, enjoy refreshments or listen to a 
story before moving on to the next thing that catches your attention.
With over twenty antique and gift shops, Brevard has a store for everyone. Shop Main Street and beyond for home furnishings, eclectic items or souvenirs and follow that with a good meal in one of the several fine restaurants. Enjoy a soda, outside or in, and people-watch to your heart’s content.
Brevard, NC, should be on everyone’s list of places to go. There is so much to do in this picturesque town that you will find yourself returning again and again, if not staying for a lifetime. Whether Brevard is your hometown or not, you will feel right at home.
